From Humble Beginnings
Harris was born in 1947 in Liverpool, England. As a child, he was fascinated by puppets and would often create his own from socks and cardboard.
His love of puppetry continued into adulthood, and in the early 1970s, he began performing at children's parties and on television.
In 1984, Harris was approached by producer Roger Law to join the team of puppeteers for Spitting Image.
Spitting Image: A Satirical Revolution
Spitting Image was an instant success, and Harris quickly became one of its most popular puppeteers.
His characters were known for their biting wit and impeccable timing, and they soon became iconic symbols of British satire.
Harris's most famous creation was Orville the Duck, a hapless bird-brained former television star who became a firm favorite with viewers.
But behind the laughter, there was a serious side to Spitting Image.
The show's creators used puppets to challenge authority and speak truth to power, and they often found themselves in hot water with the establishment.
Harris recalls one incident where he was threatened with legal action by the Queen's lawyers after he performed a sketch that portrayed her as a dominatrix.
Despite the controversy, Spitting Image continued to thrive, and Harris became one of the most respected puppeteers in the world.
A New Chapter
In 1996, Spitting Image was canceled after 12 years on the air.
Harris continued to perform as Orville the Duck, but he also branched out into other areas of entertainment, including acting, writing, and directing.
My Life Inside Britain's Most Infamous Puppet
My Life Inside Britain's Most Infamous Puppet is Harris's candid and often hilarious account of his life and career.
The book is filled with behind-the-scenes stories from the world of Spitting Image, as well as personal anecdotes about Harris's childhood, his struggles, and his triumphs.
It is a unique and fascinating look into the life of one of Britain's most iconic entertainers.
Whether you're a fan of Spitting Image, a lover of puppets, or simply someone who enjoys a good story, My Life Inside Britain's Most Infamous Puppet is a must-read.
