By Edwidge Danticat
Haiti Noir is a groundbreaking collection of dark fiction that explores the hidden horrors of Haiti's past and present. Edited by Edwidge Danticat, this anthology features stories from some of the most talented Haitian and Haitian-diaspora writers working today.
The stories in Haiti Noir are as diverse as the country itself. They range from historical fiction to contemporary crime to supernatural horror. But they all share a common thread: they explore the dark side of Haiti's history and culture.
In "The Duvalier Dine," by award-winning author Madison Smartt Bell, a group of Haitian exiles gather in New York City to confront their past. In "The Dead Man's Party," by Edwidge Danticat, a young woman returns to Haiti for her father's funeral and is haunted by the ghosts of his past.
Other stories in the collection include "The Night of the Living Dead," by award-winning author Marie Vieux-Chauvet, a chilling tale of a voodoo ritual gone wrong; "The Shadow of the Mountain," by award-winning author Jean-Robert Cadet, a powerful story about a young man's struggle to survive in the slums of Port-au-Prince; and "The House on Sugar Beach," by award-winning author Ibi Zoboi, a haunting story about a young woman's coming-of-age in a Haitian village.
Haiti Noir is a must-read for anyone interested in Haitian literature, dark fiction, or crime fiction. It is a powerful and disturbing collection that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
